California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Fremont, California.
This spectacular corner of the Alameda County has roughly 220,000 inhabitants and was incorporated in 1956, after the merger of several smaller communities: Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission San Jose and Warm Springs. Fremont is named after the American explorer John Charles Fremont, also called The Great Pathfinder. The previous small towns that together became the city of Fremont are today separate communities or neighborhoods. The Niles neighborhood has a small-town feel and a tight-knit community, much thanks to its secluded location at the base of Fremont's hills. This area was once home to the first West Coast motion picture producer, Essanay Studios, and was where Charlie Chaplin and Broncho Billy Anderson filmed some of their most iconic silent pictures. If you want to know more about the Niles film history, the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum features artifacts of the early years and holds screenings of early 20th century silent films. While Fremont basically consists of several small towns, the main focal point is the Central District. This is where you'll find large retail shopping centers and the Fremont Bay Area Rapid Transit station, hospitals and schools, as well as the green and lush Central Park and tranquil Lake Elizabeth. If you have kids, bring them to the Aqua Adventure, a gigantic water park with water slides, pools, and a lazy river that surrounds the complex. The little ones might enjoy the splash zone where there are jets and sprays, and grown ups can work on their strokes in one of the 25-yard swimming lanes. The water park also offers a picnic-area, so bring your family for a whole day of fun!
