FOSTER CITY
California, U.S.A.
CITY OF PARKS AND LEISURE
Welcome to Foster City, California.
The city has a total population of 30,567 people, and has been ranked by Forbes as the 10th best town to live in America. Foster City was named after a T. Jack Foster, who owned much of the land where the city was first founded. In the beginning, this was an engineered landfill in the marches of San Francisco Bay, and Jack Foster was a vital part of the initial design of the town. His descendants are still very much active in the real estate business, and they continue to run his successor firm, Foster Enterprises. The city is sometimes considered to be a part of the Silicon Valley, thanks to the many corporations headquartered here. The most prominent one is Visa Inc.; currently one of the largest employers in the city alongside giants like Giliad Sciences, Life Technologies, IBM and Sony Computer Entertainment. Foster City is a green place, with a total of 24 parks with features like tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, as well as a plethora of hiking and biking trails along San Francisco Bay. In fact, Foster City boasts more parks per capita than any other municipality in the state! For additional recreation, you can spend a day experiencing world-class windsurfing and kite surfing down by the Mariners Point, or play golf at the 9-hole golf course. Teens can enjoy themselves at the new Teen Activities Center (also called The Vibe), where there is everything from TV's, computers, video games, homework rooms and an outdoor basketball court. For grown-up entertainment, check out the Public Amphitheater in the Leo J. Ryan Memorial Park, a recent construction where the Foster City Summer concerts are held. There is also a community theatre, the historic Hillbarn Theatre, which was founded in 1941 and has a wide selection of plays and performance classes. Whatever floats your boat, Foster City will provide you with something fun to do!
