New Jersey, U.S.A.
Welcome to Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Elizabeth is a historic city in the state of New Jersey, with a population of around 125,000 people. The city is the Union County Seat and the state's fourth largest city, and is home to most major governmental offices and courts in the county. The city has developed remarkably in the past few years, with a ton of new developments popping up throughout the city. Revitalization efforts have polished old buildings, and today Elizabeth is a modern town with plenty of old charm. One of the biggest attractions in Elizabeth is the popular Jersey Gardens Mall, which is the largest mall on the East Coast. The mall boasts every imaginable specialty store, boutique, restaurant and a number of major anchor tenants. Around 15 million come to visit the center each year, so it's safe to say that it's the place to be for some serious shopping. Elizabeth is home to a total of 46 parks, including the Warinanco and Mattano Park, as well as the majestic Veteran's Memorial Waterfront Park. The biggest is the Warinanco Park, which was designed by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Olmstead, who was responsible for a plethora of notable park designs in the country including New York's Central Park. Warinanco Park features an abundance of recreation options and amenities, including multi-use trails, a fitness course, ball courts and fields, an ice-skating rink and beautiful flower gardens. If you truly want to experience the grandeur of this green space, visit during spring when the Cherry Blossom takes over the park alongside various floras. The trickling waterway that makes its way throughout is terrific addition, where visitors can spend an afternoon paddling in a rented boat. The Veteran's Memorial Waterfront Park offers more opportunities for water activities, with a fishing pier and dry-docking facilities. Finally, foodies have got to check out the vibrant dining scene that Elizabeth is so famous for. Whether you're into American, Italian or Portuguese you name it, Elizabeth has it! Stop by the Bella Palermo Pastry Shop for some authentic baked Italian bread, or The Avenue with its many ethnic restaurants and coffee shops. For the best Cuban cuisine you've ever tasted, visit the Alvarez Caf; a landmark that has stayed strong on The Avenue for over 35 years.
