EL PASO
Texas, U.S.A.
A BURGEONING BORDER CITY
Welcome to El Paso, Texas. El Paso is situated in West Texas, and is home to around 679,000 people. The city is perched on the Rio Grande across the border from Juarez, Mexico. Juarez and El Paso together form an international metropolitan area, which is often referred as the "Paso del Norte", with over 2.7 million people combined. While Juarez has a reputation for being precarious, El Paso has actually been ranked the safest large city in the U.S. for four years in a row. The city is home to the University of Texas at El Paso and the Medical Center of the Americas; the only medical research and care provider complex in West Texas and southern New Mexico. Downtown El Paso contains some of the city’s most historic buildings, and the first development took place in 1875 when El Paso was just barely establishing itself as a city. Today the city center comprises a burgeoning economy, home to a thriving and urban community. Numerous historic sites and landmarks can be found here, mostly in the Sunset Heights district. The area is close to the El Paso International Airport and the Mexican border, as well as Fort Bliss. When you’re looking for entertainment, head to the Kern Place. This neighborhood is known for its vivacious clubs, restaurants and coffee shops, which attract a large hoard of college and university students. This is where people come for food and drinks, after various ball games and concerts. So if you’re in town for a good time and a cold beer – Kern Place is your spot.
