EAST LAKE
A TRANSFORMED GEM
Welcome to East Lake, Atlanta.
This neighborhood is situated in the eastern part of the city, nestled against the areas of Kirkwood, Decatur and Oakhurst. East Lake was once a rundown and crime-ridden neighborhood, but today it is an area that has undergone a massive transformation. The neighborhood, which has become an inspiring example of ending urban poverty in America, today features restored craftsman bungalows as well as Ranch and Tudor homes. A big contributing factor to revitalizing the area has been the East Lake Golf Club, the oldest club in Atlanta with home players like legendary Bobby Jones. Proceeds from operations - more than $20 million to date support the East Lake Foundation, which has been instrumental in transforming the community into what it is today. Thanks to East Lake's convenient position close to the city center and easy interstate access, it has become a vibrant and pretty desirable neighborhood with house prices ranging from $200-700,000. The neighborhood is today a fine place to raise family, with features like a public park and a big playground, as well as a Farmers market and large YMCA facilities. In addition, there are several local historic landmarks within East Lake's borders. Aside from the famous East Lake Golf Club, check out the antebellum home of Civil War Col. Robert A. Alston, the second oldest home in Atlanta, built in 1856. While East Lake doesn't have many restaurants or stores within its boundaries, dining, shopping and entertainment options abound just around the corner in surrounding areas. East Lake also boasts its own new food store, the Publix grocery store.
