Georgia, U.S.A.
Welcome to Dunwoody, Georgia. This city of around 46,000 people became incorporated in 2008, and is situated in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. The community was first established in the 1830s, when the village was named after Major Charles Dunwody. Thanks to a misspelling on a banknote, the name became Dunwoody, which the city is called today. One of the oldest buildings in Dunwoody is the Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, which was built in 1829 and lies at the corner of Roberts Drive and Spalding Drive. The church is still very much active and also houses one of the city’s historic cemeteries, where many of the Dunwoody founders rest. Dunwoody comprises several districts and neighborhoods. Dunwoody Village is the historic focal point of the city and is also the location of the Dunwoody Farmhouse landmark. This neighborhood features a unique Colonial architectural style and is home to the Dunwoody Village Shopping Center, where many stores and restaurants can be found. The Perimeter Center is an area formed around the Perimeter Mall, a 1971 mixed development featuring offices, residences and lots of commercial activity. Georgetown is located by the I-285 freeway and is one of the most pedestrian friendly neighborhoods of the city, featuring many single-family residences and a separate retail district. Other neighborhoods include Williamsburg, a commercial district with plenty of dining and shopping, as well as Winters Chapel and Tilly Mill. Winters Chapel centers round the Winters Chapel Methodist Church, and features two green parks and a water reservoir. Finally, the Tilly Mill neighborhood was named after the farmers and mill owners of the Tilly family. Landmarks here include the Dunwoody campus of the Georgia Perimeter College as well as Dunwoody’s primary park, Brook Run.
