AN IRISH CITY IN CALIFORNIA
Welcome to the city of Dublin, California. This suburban city is located in the East Bay region of Alameda County, and is home to around 50,000 people.
The history of the town began in 1835, when the Mexican soldier Jose Maria Amador was granted 16,500 acres of land in honor of his services. The area was then called Valley Amador after himself, but in 1850, Irish settlers came in and bought the land; hence the city's present name Dublin. Dublin has many preserved historical sites, including The Murray Schoolhouse, Green's Store, The Old Cemetery and the St. Raymond's Church all built between the years of 1856 and 1860. Dublin is a pioneer within architecture, and famous developers like Rick Caruso (creator of famous The Grove in Los Angeles) have recently taken note of the city. Several developments are under way in the Dublin, including the soon to be Promenade where high-end stores are scheduled to be open. In addition, a future dog park in Jordan Ranch is being built, and larger chains like Nordstrom Rack and Whole Foods are moving into the area. One of the greatest events of the year is the Saint Patrick's Day celebration, where the town comes together to cheer in honor of the city's Irish roots. The event includes a 5K run and walk, a pancake breakfast, a festival and a parade. People from all over Dublin as well as outside visitors come to take part in the merriness, and the party continues all through the weekend!
