DRUID HILLS
A TOWN IN THE CITY
Welcome to Druid Hills, Atlanta.
Druid Hills is an un-incorporated town and technically a neighborhood of Atlanta. Around 15,000 people live in this area, which contains the main campus of Emory University as well as the CDC facilities. The Atlanta part of Druid Hills is one of the most wealthy neighborhoods the whole city, with a median income near 240,000 dollars and above. Initially, this planned community was created by a man name Joel Hurt, who together with some of Atlanta's most prominent residents, including Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler, realized his vision. The area is an Atlanta historic district, with some of the oldest buildings in the city, ranging from the late 19th and early 20th century constructions. One of the landmarks of the area includes the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Atlanta's primary institution for visual, literal and visual arts education. The historic building of Gothic-Tudor style was the former home of Charles Howard Candler, the president of Coca-Cola and the eldest son of the company's founder. The neighborhood is home to a plethora of parks, including the Baker Woodland Park, the Burbanck Park, Hahn Woods and the Medlock Park. Medlock Park features little league baseball fields, a playground and a running and cycling trail along Nancy Creek, and the Fernbanck School Park offers more recreation including a picnic area. Fernbank Forest is also home to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, a historic art piece that houses historical Georgia-centric exhibits aimed to educate the public.
