Welcome to Dolores Heights, San Francisco.
This exclusive neighborhood, which recently became the new home of billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, has long been an epicenter for gay rights. Today it is a wonderfully diverse neighborhood with an increasing influx of young families. Dolores Height is where the world-renowned Castro district is located and the scurrying Castro Street holds some of the city's most cherished landmarks. Harvey's Milk Store and the historic Castro Theatre are both to be found here, huddling among a plethora of bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs. The eastern side is home to the desirable Liberty Hill, where residents have access to astounding views from their spectacular mansions. The Muni streetcar takes you straight to downtown, and for a longer trip the freeway is easily accessible right off Market Street. With its eclectic architecture, including pre-quake Victorian, Dolores Heights is a hard spot to resist. The neighborhood offers plenty of merrymaking with the yearly Castro Street Fair and Pride week, when the streets come alive with jolly celebration. Natives and newcomers alike love the little parks like Kite Hill and the Seward Street slides, and health enthusiasts take advantage of the morning boot camps on one of the many cul-de-sacs connected by sharp stairs with seducing views. Thanks to Twin Peaks blocking most of the strong winds and fog, Dolores Heights has the perk of enjoying mostly clear and warm weather.
