Colorado, U.S.A.
Welcome to Denver, Capital of Colorado State with around 632,000 residents.
Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United States. Denver City was founded in 1858 when a group of gold prospectors from Kansas arrived and established the Montana City on the banks of the South Platte River. This settlement later became the city of Denver. General William Larimer, a land speculator from eastern Kansas, named the city Denver to gain favor of the Kansas Territorial Governor James W. Denver. He hoped that the name would help make it a county seat, but by that time Governor Denver had already resigned from office. Denver is a booming, forward-thinking, urban city. Public transportation is great as they have one of the best bicycle sharing programs, as well as a newly renovated Union Station which functions as the focal point of the LoDo neighborhood. As most people know by now, Colorado has been a pioneer in legalizing marijuana and unassuming dispensaries pop up in every corner of Denver. Denver features stunning public spaces such as the Washington Park and the Cherry Creek Bike path, so why not rent one of those bikes and go for a ride! On the first and third Friday of each month, Santa Fe Arts District holds a festive art walk. Local galleries and antique shops are filled with people and music flows from the speakers. On these nights, don't forget to visit Museo de las Americas who hosts a Spanish Happy Hour on the third Friday, when they offer drinks and conversation to collectors and cultural connoisseurs. Beer is a big deal in Colorado, and not only is it the home of mega-brewery Coors, but it also has an exciting plethora of craft beer within its limits. Denver alone is welcomes you to dozens of excellent breweries from a variety of backgrounds such as German and English. They even have a hippie brewery and a heavy metal brewery! Rumors has it that if you are to only visit one, go for the Great Divide. The food scene is packed with flavors from all over the world, and you can find everything from hot dog stands, divine Bloody Mary's and savoring brunches to sea food restaurants and high-end dining in this great city. If you're feeling extra brave, visit one of the exotic restaurants that serve dishes like rattle snake. Being a large city, Denver offers an abundance of shopping. If you're looking for less commercial style stores, head over to South Broadway for some of the city's most interesting boutiques.
