CURTIS PARK
A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE IS WELCOME
Welcome to Curtis Park, Denver.
The Curtis Park neighborhood is situated just north of Downtown Denver, and comprises a historic area developed in the 1860s and 1870s. Curtis Park was designed as a fashionable residential suburb, and residents of the community pride themselves with the fact that they live in the oldest residential neighborhood in the city. Curtis Park is one of central Denver's most easily accessible neighborhoods, and busy commuters can get to and from the area in no time. In addition to being perfectly located, the neighborhood is unusually diverse with a rich tapestry of people and cultures. Curtis Park has always been a mixed-income community, which is clearly displayed in the varying architecture. You'll see turn of the century mansions standing next to modest bungalows built by the immigrant workforce in the 19th century. Thanks to the economic diversity, Curtis Park is a colorful place that welcomes all kinds of people. Public transportation is a breeze, and residents can either embark on a 15-minute stroll to downtown or take a quick ride on the light rail. A wonderful historic landmark in Curtis Park is the Sacred Heart House of Denver. The church is the oldest functioning place of worship in the city, and was established in 1879 for Italian and Irish immigrants. Take a peek inside and you'll notice a gothic interior with elaborately ornate windows of stained glass, as well as a gorgeous mural of the death and resurrection of Jesus. As far as green space, the most popular spot in the neighborhood is the Mestizo-Curtis Park. The park is situated in the center of the neighborhood and was established as Denver's first public park in 1868. Visitors can enjoy plenty of amenities, including an outdoor pool, ball courts and fields, horseshoe pits and a brand new playground.
