California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Crockett, California. Crockett is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County rather than an incorporated town, and is home to around 3,000 people. It is located on the Mexican land grant Rancho El Pinole, and was named after a judge on the California Supreme Court, Joseph B. Crocket. This lovely little non-town is a place where residents can enjoy affordable rent and a tight-knit community. Locals say that just going for a walk can gain you three new friends – something you can’t say for many bigger cities. While Crockett doesn’t boast a huge restaurant scene or a vibrant shopping area, if you live here a while you will come to find a few favorites. Some recommendations include Abrams Café on Ponoma and Second St., which features a full espresso bar and a 70’s-style ambience. The charm of a small town living lies in places like this, where the owner will remember your name next time you come around. Another place to check out is the Burlington Hotel Café in Port Costa, where you can satisfy your weekend cravings with the best cornbread and pound coffee cake money can buy. For a good night out, enjoy high quality food at the Bull Valley Roadhouse, and then go for a round of drinks at the Toot’s Bar. This little gem also includes quite a bit of culture, in the form of Bailey Art Museum. The museum features a 3200 square foot space filled with works by artists like acclaimed sculptor Clayton Bailey and watercolor-artist Betty Bailey, and is well worth a visit!
