CORTE MADERA
California, U.S.A.
THE TOWN OF CHOPPED WOOD
Welcome to Corte Madera, California.
The town is situated at the foot of the legendary Mount Tamalpas, and is home of around 9,200 people. The name Corte Madera means: chop wood in Spanish, and was inspired by the fact that the area once was famous for producing redwood tree lumber. This charming little place rests at the intersection of the Corte Madera Creek and San Francisco Bay, and the surrounding nature is absolutely gasp-worthy. Aside from breathtaking scenery, Corte Madera has two of Marin County's best shopping centers, The Town Center and The Village. Here, you can splurge at Nordstrom and Macy's, scout findings at one of the many boutiques, or dine at a plethora of restaurants. The Corte Madera Farmer's Market offers an abundance of local produce and is open every Wednesday afternoon. For those that are a little bit more gourmet, there are several exceptional eateries in Corte Madera. The Marin Joe's for instance, which has been open for 50 years, offers both a splendid dining experience as well as affordable lodging for both the long and short term. Down at the Corte Madera Creek you will find teams of rowers paddling away, while the birdwatchers gather at the Corte Madera Ecological Reserve. Wildlife is abundant here, and in the Shorebird Marsh there is a 31-acre wildlife habitat open for those interested in natural activities.
