Texas, U.S.A.
Welcome to Corpus Christi, Texas.
Situated in the south part of the state, Corpus Christi is a coastal city with around 442,600 residents. Corpus Christi means Body of Christ in Latin, and Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda named the city in 1519, after coming across the luscious semitropical bay on the Catholic feast day of Corpus Christi. Nicknamed Texas Riviera and Sparkling City by the Sea, the City of Corpus Christi is a popular tourist destination. There are several attractions both for residents and visitors, including the Texas State Aquarium and the floating USS Lexington Museum on the Bay; both located on North Beach. The latter was part of the set for the film Pearl Harbor, and is situated near the city museum district. The district includes the Museum of Asian Cultures, the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, as well as the South Texas Institute for Arts. Theatre enthusiasts are also covered, and numerous plays can be enjoyed at the Harbor Playhouse; one of the oldest continually operating community theaters in Texas. Some of the most historic buildings in Corpus Christi can be found in the district as well, in the Heritage Park. The museum district is also part of the downtown area, where you'll find towering Texas-style skyscrapers like One Shoreline Plaza, office buildings and a plethora of shops and restaurants. One of the cooler spots in downtown is the Texas Surf Museum, where visitors can explore the history of surfing and its culture. Aside from long the wide seashore, Corpus Christi boasts numerous public green spaces. One of those is the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, where visitors can enjoy lush flora and take part in the occasional gardening programs. Those who are into bird watching can head to the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge, while casual leisure time can be spent at the Padre and Mustang Islands' parks. If you're looking for a piece of beach life with a Texas-twist, Corpus Christi is truly a gem. Because really, where else can you gaze at palm-trees and beaches while enjoying large plates of southern food, in a city filled with cultural attractions?
