COLUMBUS
Ohio, U.S.A.
BUGGY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD
Welcome to the 15th largest city in the United States, third largest city in the Midwestern of the United States, and the largest city in Ohio - with a population of 835,957 (2014). Dating back 200 years, Columbus, Ohio is rich in history. Named after explorer Christopher Columbus, Columbus, Ohio was founded in 1812, and became the state capital in 1816. With only 3,500 people in population, Columbus became an official city on March 3, 1834. By the end of the 19th century Columbus was known as the “Buggy Capital of the World” due to the large presence of manufacturing businesses that settled in the city. Columbus was named in BusinessWeek’s 50 Best Cities in America back in 2012. Forbes went on to give Columbus an ‘A’ for being one of the top cities for businesses in the U.S. And further, Relocate America put Columbus in it’s top ten list for a place to move, while the USA Travel Guide ranked Columbus Zoo and Aquarium number one in 2009. And, in 2010, Columbus was ranked as the second for most manly city in the country. Today, Columbus, OH is known for its mixed population and being home to thousands of restaurants that are just as diverse – and delicious! Columbus is also diverse and cultured with a flourishing performing arts scene that includes the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and the Actors’ Theatre of Columbus, where they conduct free performances of Shakespearean plays during the summer in the historic German Village.
