North Carolina, U.S.A.
Welcome to the home of The Place of the Sweet Bay Tree. Sitting along the Scuppernong River, Columbia, NC was first established in 1793 as Elizabethtown.
To this day, Columbia has yet to reach even 1,000 people in population! This little town takes immense pride in its extraordinary natural beauty. With 85 percent of this little town being protected land, you will find that you will never run out of places to explore. Also, there is no shortage of bald eagles, ospreys, or other wildlife that are rarely seen due to too much human traffic. Columbia also holds habitats for more than 20 endangered or rare species. Needless to say, you will be in the heart of Mother Nature in Columbia. Aside from its awe-inspiring surroundings, Columbia has even more to offer! With parks and playgrounds on almost every corner, rivers flowing around town, and the local Riverbanks Zoo, you and your family will never run out of things to do. Canoe or kayak down the river rapids, hike around the national park, or camp out under the stars. And when you're ready to join civilization once again, head over to the local theatre, or watch a tantalizing ballet performed by one of the local ballet and dance companies. Columbia is a small town with big dreams and a lot of excitement that fits anyone's appetite for the outdoors, theatre, or plain relaxation. This gorgeous piece of land can attract tourists or act as a home base for the whole family.
