Welcome to Carrollton, Georgia.
Carrollton is a busy little city located around 50 miles from downtown Atlanta. Nestled in the green foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of West Georgia, it is the county seat of Carroll County and home to around 23,000 residents. Historically, Carrollton is known as a cultural and commercial hub. It has grown as a prominent market town thanks to its location by several railroads and freeways, and the city still has a lucrative business center. The Southwire Company is situated here, being the largest employer in town and the biggest manufacturer in the world of wire and cable. Downtown Carrollton is of much historic value to the city, with Adamson Square being an important testament to the town's position as a textile and transportation hub in West Georgia. Carrollton is known as something else too a college town. The Fourth District Agricultural and Mechanical school was established in 1906 and is today known as the University of West Georgia. The university is home to over 10,000 students and is a large contributor to the overall life in Carrollton. This pedestrian friendly city of Carrollton features a vibrant shopping district with lots of stores, dining places and endless entertainment. Check out the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center for top-notch recreation including a 262-seat theatre, or relax by the lake beach in John State Park. Carrollton boasts several merry events as well, such as the Mayfest and the Mecca Fest, when the whole city come together to celebrate with food, performances and various activity for the whole family. Those who are interested in musical history can stop by the Sacred Harp Museum, which offers a unique glimpse into the history and tradition of Sacred Harp singing.
