THE SUBURB OF PARKS
Welcome to Carmichael, California
Carmichael is a census-designated place located in Sacramento County. This suburb to the Sacramento metropolitan area has a population of around 62,000 people, among which the majority are of wealthier means. The community is named after Daniel W. Carmichael, who came to California in 1885 and developed several colonies that today make up the area of Carmichael. The affluent community of Carmichael is a green one, and there are an abundance of parks in town. The Carmichael Park is a 38-acre open space with several ball fields, tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course. The Veterans' Memorial Building is situated in the park, as well as the Community Clubhouse, the Great Wall of Carmichael and the Daniel Bishop Memorial Pavilion, where you can enjoy various performances. For the green-fingered, check out the Jensen Botanical Gardens, where visitors can explore a wide array of flora including camellias and azaleas. For a fun evening of entertainment, check out the Chataqua Playhouse, a 95-seat theater that shows comedies, dramas and musicals. Bring the little ones here on Saturdays, when the playhouse holds theater events especially for kids. Another cool spot to visit is the Ancil Hoffman Park and the Effle Yeaw Nature Center. This oak-canopied park is situated along the American River, and you can see recreated Maidu Indian homes at the entrance. The park is also home to the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course, so bring your club to make the day complete! For shopping, head over to the Crestview Village Shopping Center where you will find a plethora of stores and restaurants to satisfy every need!
