Cambridge, MA
Welcome to Cambridge Highlands, located two miles from Harvard Square and seven miles from downtown Boston.
This calm neighborhood offers residents a wonderful slice of suburbia right next door to the vibrant parts of Cambridge, all while featuring great schools and safe streets. Thanks to the excellent schools, the well-kept public parks and terrific public transportation, Cambridge Highlands attracts many families. The residential area is blissfully quiet, but as soon as you want some action you have the Porter and Davis Squares close by with their lively nightlife and great restaurants, while Harvard Square provides culture and retail. The street layout is particular for the time when the neighborhood was a rail depot and turnpike, featuring commercial industrial buildings to the east and calm lovely residential streets to the west. While Cambridge Highlands doesn't have its own hip restaurants scene, you can still find a few local favorites in the area. Check out the many sandwich shops and kabob joints around route 3, as well as the ethnic restaurants offering flavors of Japanese and Middle Eastern cuisine. Local spots include the Ma Magoo's Pizza & Sub Shop as well as the popular sushi place Genki Ya. Although the neighborhood lacks museums and art galleries, it does feature some other attractions. For instance, one of Boston's best swing dance events occurs every week at the Boston Swing Central, where you can take lessons and dance all night. If you are interested in more culture, hop on the bus to the Harvard Square where the Fogg Museum offers world-class art, and the American Repertory Theatre hosts contemporary and classic shows.
