BURLINGAME
California, U.S.A.
THE CITY OF TREES
Welcome to Burlingame, California.
This city is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula with the beautiful shoreline of San Francisco Bay by its side. The city is home to around 29,000 people and was named after the diplomat Anson Burlingame. Burlingame is famous for its large number of trees, and is often called City of Trees. This stems from the 1908 ordinance, which prohibited cutting, injuring or destroying trees of any kind. In addition to many residences having city-protected trees on their lots, Burlingame has a large number of parks and Eucalyptus groves, further adding to the green dcor of the city landscape. Another cause for fame in the city is the Burlingame Library, which was established in 1909. After the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, the City reconstructed the library, and the current architecture has won a number of awards. It has even been featured in Library Journal and earned a cover story in the American Libraries. So even if you're not a book nerd, it may be worth a visit just for the look of it. There are plenty of five-star restaurants in Burlingame, including the Stella Alpina Osteria, a classy Italian restaurant and cocktail bar, and the New England Lobster Company, where you can devour fresh lobsters, oysters and other seafood delicacies! If you really want to explore what Burlingame has to offer, go to the Downtown area where you'll find hundreds of stores and restaurants, independent emporiums and outlets for designer names.
