Colorado, U.S.A.
Welcome to Boulder, Colorado.
Boulder is a city nestled in the foothills of the towering Rocky Mountains, 25 miles west of Denver. The city is the 11th most populous city in Colorado, with an estimated 97,385 residents. The City of Boulder is renowned for its rich Western history, and it was a popular destination for hippies in the late 1960s. Boulder is also famous as the location of University of Colorado, the state's largest university. In addition, Boulder continues to rank high on lists of healthy, happy and educated cities. The awards are too many to mention, but to name a few Boulder has ranked as the No.1 Happiest city in America, the Smartest City, and the Best Place to Live in America. People are drawn to Boulder's wonderful location in Boulder Valley, situated between the Rocky Mountain and the Great Plains. One of the more particular quirks in Boulder is the slab of sedimentary stone tilted up on the foothills, a characteristic known as the Flatirons. The stones are so widely recognized that they are considered Boulder's signature symbol. Another attractive feature of Boulder is its primary water flow, Boulder Creek. The creek received its name long the city's inception, for the large granite boulders that have fallen into the creek over thousands of years. It is believed that the creek was the very reason that Boulder got its city name. Thanks to all the open space in Boulder, adventurous souls can head out for activities like rock climbing and hiking. The city is surrounded by thousands of acres of nature preserves and conservation easements, of which nearly 35,584 acres is available to the public.
