California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Belvedere, California. This wealthy city in the Marin County is situated on the Tiburon Peninsula and is home to only 2,000 people. The town is exceptionally small, and the entire place and covers less than one square mile. Belvedere consists of Belvedere Island and Corinthian Island, separated by the Belvedere Lagoon. The three neighborhoods are situated below the southeastern base of Ring Mounting, and together they create spectacular scenery – very attractive for those who can afford it. The Belvedere Lagoon is protected by a property owner’s association, and is not accessible by boat; no public is allowed here. Hence, it is a very private and exclusive area, reserved for only wealthy city residents. Belvedere properties are famous for their incredible views over the Bay Area, Angel Island, San Francisco, Sausalito, Golden Gate Bridge and Mount Tamalpais. The views come at a price tag though, and in year 2000, nearly 90% of the housing units here cost over 1 million dollars. Architecture here is often of Victorian style, and some of the homes are featured on “The Home Tour” every May. With all the recent attention, construction has increased in the area, which has frustrated some of the older and more humble population of Belvedere. Restaurants and stores are not allowed in Belvedere, and the city is committed to preserving trees and views, as well as architecture. But if you are in the area and looking for recreation, the town Tiburon lies nearby and offers a plethora of services, shops and restaurants.
