California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Bellflower, California.
Bellflower is a suburban city in Los Angeles County, home to around 76,600 people. The city was incorporated in 1957, and founded by F.F. Woodruff in 1906. When the first post office was established in 1909, the city was called Somerset. Because another city existed with the same name in Colorado, the city was later renamed Bellflower after the bellefleur apple, which grew in local orchards. The first settlers in the area were Dutch, Japanese and Portuguese dairy farmers, and the community along with neighboring Paramount served as the apple and milk production hubs for Southern California. The industries thrived, until property values steeply ascended post World War II. This forced most of the farmers to move many miles east to the Dairy Valley area, which today comprises the cities of Cerritos, La Palma and Cypress. Bellflower's main thoroughfare, Bellflower Boulevard, was a thriving commercial strip throughout the 1950s and 1960s. The strip was filled with retail and restaurants, middle- and high-end boutiques, art and crafts shops and various local shops, as well as numerous larger department stores and banks. Today, there is still a few establishments in this area, but not in the capacity it once was. If you're in Bellflower, there are several fun places to check out. Stop by the Hollywood Sports Paintball & Airsoft, referred to as the Disneyland for Paintball & Airsoft, or the Los Angeles County Fire Museum for a look into the history's firefighting history. For a few beers and a good game, visit the Frank's Place Sports bar, and for a nigh out, visit the local Flux Bar.
