California, U.S.A.
Welcome to Atherton, California.
This town of barely 7,000 people is located in the San Mateo County, and is one of America's most expensive zip codes. Once upon a time, in 1866, Atherton went by the name Fair Oaks. Fair Oaks was a flag stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad that went between San Francisco and San Jose, and back then the entire area was called Menlo Park. Menlo Park tried to incorporate Fair Oaks in 1874 and 1911, but when it became clear that the name Menlo Park was already taken, the town was instead named after one of the earliest property owners, Faxon Dean Atherton. While a small city, the list of celebrities here is long. Among the famous people that have their roots in Atherton are child star Shirley Temple, Drew Fuller from the TV-show Charmed, author Gertrude Atherton and Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook. If you're in town and looking for some things to do, check out the Asian Art Museum for exquisite art, or the Music Menlo theaters for top-notch chamber music and world- class concerts. As far as green space, you have only one option but it's a good one. The Hobut-Palmer Park is a pastoral recreational park where you will find historical buildings like the Main House, Jennings Pavilion and Carriage Out. The best thing about these little buildings is that you can actually rent them, so if you're looking for a weekend getaway, this just may be your lucky spot!
