Texas, U.S.A.
Welcome to Arlington, Texas.
Arlington is situated within the Greater Dallas-Fort-Worth-Arlington area, and is part of Tarrant County. The city is home to around 379,577 people, which makes it the seventh largest city in Texas. Arlington was founded in 1876 by the Texas and Pacific Railway, and was named after General Robert E. Lee's home in Arlington County, Virginia. The town grew as a cotton-ginning and farming center, and was incorporated in 1884. Arlington is located approximately 12 miles from downtown Fort Worth and 20 miles west of downtown Dallas, which puts it in a great spot for those who commute for work in the large business centers. The City of Arlington is also home its own large entities, including the University of Texas at Arlington and the General Motors assembly plant. The city also features a number of attractions, including the AT&T Stadium, the International Bowling Campus, Hurricane Harbor water park and the original Six Flags theme park. As far as shopping, residents have plenty to choose from. One of the largest and most popular retail centers is The Parks Mall, which features a multitude of outlets, dining places, an ice skating rink and a movie theatre. There is also the Arlington Highlands, an entertainment hot spot with places like the Studio Movie Grill and The Improv Theatre. The city also features plenty of culture, with venues like the Theatre Arlington and the Arlington Museum of Art, as well as The Gallery at UT Arlington. For live music, check out the Levitt Pavilion Arlington, a fairly new concoction that puts on 50 free concerts per year in downtown. Acclaimed artists from various genres have performed at this stage, including the Grammy-winning Asleep at the Wheel.
