SKATER TOWN
Welcome to Aptos, California.
This tiny town of around 6,000 people is located in the Santa Cruz County, and was originally inhabitated by the Ohlone Awawas people. There are only three native words that have survived as place names in Santa Cruz, and Aptos is one of them meaning the people. Aptos is home to several open spaces, including The Forest of Nisene Marks State Parks and Seacliff State Beach California Parks. Nisene Marks is an excellent choice for hikers and mountain bikers, and many of the Aptos beaches are popular amongst surfing and bodyboarding although the waves don't tend to be as large as beaches in Santa Cruz and Capitola. Other common hobbies in the area include street skateboarding and free-ride biking, and the city has attempted to build a designated skate park in Aptos. Aptos is known for The Worlds Shortest Parade which is held on Fourth of July each year, a parade that is only 0.6 miles long but rest assured, it is just as festive as any longer one! Another event to check out is the Aptos Blues Festival, where several celebrity performers have been featured like Coco Montoya, Elvin Bishop, Bonnie Raitt and Al Green. Although Aptos is a small town, it doesn't lack entertainment. For instance, one can go to Aptos Cinemas and check out the many cool indie movies, or go for a splurge at the Rancho Del Mar shopping center. The center houses a 30-year old local favorite, Erik's DeliCafe where you can devour delicious sandwiches, soups and salads. Other places to visit for lunch or dinner include the Bittersweet Bistro, Palapas, Sanderlings and Zameen Mediterranean House, to only name a few. If you want some free entertainment, stand on the bylines of the Platforms in Aptos Village and watch local skaters perform some cool tricks!
