Fallbrook began to grow as a community in what is today Live Oak County Park. The first permanent settlement was recorded in 1869, when the Vital Reche family named their new community Fall Brook after their former home in Pennsylvania.
The area is known for its avocado groves and boasts the title Avocado Capital of the World. Each year, the downtown strip comes to life with large crowds at The Avocado Festival, a merry celebration in honor of Fallbrook's famous fruit.
Also nicknamed The Friendly Village, Fallbrook is home to a thriving art community, with a plethora of art galleries, a terrific Art Center and approximately 30 pieces of public art. In addition, the Fallbrook School of the Arts offers year-round classes and workshops in painting, drawing, ceramics and much more, as well as special art programs for youth. Check out the murals and bronze statues around town; stop by the Brandon Gallery on Main Ave, the oldest artist co-op in San Diego County, or shop for a unique gift to take home at The Find inside the Art and Cultural Center.
If you're looking for something to do, you have plenty of choices in the greater Fallbrook area. From classes in art, dance, acting, cooking and golf, to horseback riding and baseball; Fallbrook has something for everyone.
Outdoorsy folks have a large number of parks, preserves and trails to enjoy, some of which can be visited with dogs and horses. Fallbrook is truly rural Southern California living at its best, featuring a Mediterranean climate, tumbling green hills and trickling streams; coupled with a quaint downtown district that leaves no desire unsatisfied.
For live theater, spend an evening at the historic Mission Theatre, where classes are also offered to aspiring actors and actresses. The CAST Academy of Dance is another place that features terrific programs for all ages, and their performances can also be seen at the Mission Theatre.

And while there isn't a large amount of retail in Fallbrook, you will find quite a few unique local shops to explore, as well as a few quality-dining places!
