About Pembroke Pines
Pembroke Pines is part of Broward County, and is home to around 162,000 people. The official city motto is Join Us Progress With Us. The city was incorporated in 1960, and the name Pembroke Pines is traced back to the old Pembroke Road in the area with its many pine trees. The once desolate area is a thriving city with lots of houses, town-homes and miles of wide boulevards featuring a huge variety of restaurants, shops, quaint little cafes and local businesses. The massive and diverse community is the second-most populous city in Broward County, and the 11th in Florida. Pembroke Pines is home to a large Latino population, with many of the residents being Puerto Rico or Cuban. There are also many Colombians, Dominicans, Peruvians and other Latin Americans. Prepare yourself for a burgeoning food scene with lots of exciting flavors, because there are an abundance of Hispanic-owned businesses in Pembroke Pines, including Sedanos, La Carreta, Las Vegas, Vicky Bakery, Sweet Art by Lucila and Misha's Cupcakes. Other local favorites include the Casa Borinquen and Don Pepe III. The newest addition to the city is the Pines' City Center, a $58 million project that spans across 80 acres, featuring office and retail spaces, restaurants, a hotel and other amenities. If you want to enjoy the outdoors, grab a blanket and a picnic basket and head to the C.B Smith Park, known for its annual chili cook-off. And if you're into jazz, stop by the Armstrong Dream Park for one of its Jazz in the Pines nights.
