About Aliso Viejo
Aliso Viejo is a city in southern Orange County, nestled in the rolling San Joaquin Hills. Home to around 47,800 people, it was the only city in Orange County to be incorporated since 2000. The city, which was incorporated on July 1, 2001, is bordered by the cities of Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel and Laguna Woods. Aliso Viejo is a planned community built on land that was once part of the 26,000- acre Moulton Ranch. Over the years, the ranch was portioned and sold and became what is now Laguna Woods, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel. Part of it was purchased by the The Mission Viejo Company in 1979 with a master plan to build 20,000 homes for an estimated population of 50,000.The first houses were sold in 1989, and the first family moved in the same year. As part of the original project, 2,600 acres were dedicated as the Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park, and 800 additional acres were set aside for parks, recreation, schools and community facilities. At its incorporation in 2001, Aliso Viejo adopted a seal featuring several mountains, a boat, a tree and buildings. The seal also boasts the slogan Since 2001, in honor of the city's incorporation date. There are numerous ways to stay entertained in Aliso Viejo, and the Town Center features a movie theater, a large array of casual dining restaurants and various stores. The Aliso Viejo Town Center is also home to the Grant Park, which functions as a center for community concerts and events. The city also features a library, a golf course and a country club, as well as various other amenities. Those who enjoy arts can spend an evening at the Soka Performing Arts Center, which features a 1000-seat concert hall with acoustics designed by Ysuhisa Toyota; designer of the world-famous Walt Disney Hall. The boastful Soka University is a new addition, featuring a $250 million project with 103-acre campus and 18 buildings. Finally, those who are sports-oriented can find a haven at the Renaissance ClubSport, a $65 million property and the Marriot's second hotel and fitness resort, created in conjunction with Leisure Sports.
