Sioux Falls is the largest city in the state with around 169,000 residents.
The city is also called Stone Shatter City, and is situated on the banks of the Big Sioux River and the expansive prairie of the Great Plains.
Sioux Falls is a green city, with more than 70 public parks and greenways. The most noteworthy park is the Falls Park north of downtown, which was established around the city's famous waterfalls on the Big Sioux River. Other parks include the Terrace Park, McKennan Park, Sherman Park and Yankton Trail Park; all featuring a wide range of recreational opportunities and an abundance of multi-use trails.
Recently, the city beautified one of the trails that run through downtown, around an area known as River Greenway; so grab your two-wheeler and experience the combination of nature and urban bustle in the stunning surroundings of downtown Sioux Falls.
During summer, outdoor-enthusiasts can fish and explore the wildlife in the Sertoma Park, and in the winter the Great Bear Recreation Park is excellent for activities like skiing, snowboarding and tubing.
To experience a bit of community spirit, visitors can take part in one of the many events and festivals throughout the year. Some of these include the SculptureWalk, and the Festival of Bands, with the former focusing on the history of Sioux Falls and the latter hosting over 40 marching bands from across the Midwest.
The city also features a number of arts, culture, and sports venues, as well as a plethora of fantastic dining places and outstanding shopping. Whatever you are looking for, Sioux Falls has a time and place for you.
