About Adams Point
Adams Point is beautifully situated on the northern shore of Lake Merritt, and conveniently located right by Downtown Oakland. The neighborhood received its name from the name of one of the early landowners in Oakland, Edson Adams. Back then, the area served as a camp for people who were displaced after the San Francisco earthquake in 1906. Even after San Francisco was rebuilt, many of the temporary dwellers remained, and the population of Adams Point grew to the community it is today. This formerly low-key residential area has gotten quite a spillover from the Uptown buzz, and is now a fairly trendy neighborhood with Los Angeles-style apartments blended with Craftsman and Edwardian houses. The median price for real estate has risen a whopping 53% in the last year alone, which is mainly because the vicinity to downtown and the many amenities Adam Point has to offer. It is still one of the cheaper neighborhoods in Oakland, but that is unlikely to last. The Whole Foods in Adams Point is somewhat of a community focal point, and residents have further access to groceries with nearby Trader Joe's and Safeway in Grand Lake. While the shopping isn't on par with some of the hottest Oakland neighborhoods, it definitely on its way there, and the dining and entertainment scene alone is worth a visit. Stroll your way along the lake and down Grand Avenue, to discover all the cute shops and cafes that make this place so special. For a fun night out, check out the Cana a fiery Cuban caf that provides holds fun dancing events and brunch on weekends. Keep walking up the Grand Avenue until you meet Uptown with Bay Area's hottest restaurants and clubs, and while you're there, take a peak at one of the many eccentric galleries.
