Cape Coral is a city in Lee County, situated on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. The city was founded in 1957 and was developed as a planned community. Today, the city has over 165,000 residents, and spans over 120 square miles of land, making it the largest city between Tampa and Miami. Cape Coral is often nicknamed Waterfront Wonderland, because of the fact that it has more miles of canals than any other city.
Cape Coral is a scenic place with a variety of beaches in its backyard. Thanks to the many canals, many residents enjoy waterfront living with access to the expansive waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy lazy days in the sand of Sanibel Island or Forth Myers Beach, or fish in the Caloosahatchee River; Cape Coral offers a wide range of leisurely recreation. With more than 30 recreational parks and seven golf courses, Cape Coral residents also have the perk of plenty green space amidst their watery paradise. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Department maintains three public boat-launching facilities, and one can easily sail to one of the many smaller tropical islands in the Gulf of Mexico or go sports fishing in the lively ocean.
Cape Coral is more than just a city of beaches and relaxing days in the sun, and the city offers a plethora of cultural attractions. Stop by the Historical Museum, the Art Studio, the Cape Coral Art League or the Cultural Park Theatre for instance, to enjoy a taste of the sophisticated life in this diverse city. There are also a number of regional arts and performance venues in the area, including the acclaimed Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.
For those who are looking for a bit of an adventure, head up to the elevated nature trails that swirl through the mangroves at Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve, where one can spot an abundance of wild animals. Those with kids should take them to the Mike Greenwell's Bat-A-Ball & Family Fun Park, a great amusement park that has been open since 1992. One thing is certain, when you visit the terrific City of Cape Coral, you will never want to leave!
